We're looking for a talented and experienced iSeries Engineer to join our Managed Services and Hybrid IT team at Micro Strategies. The iSeries Engineer will be responsible for architecting, planning, design, and implementation of iSeries Solutions. The scope of work is primarily but not limited to; platform refresh and workload migrations, implementation of specialized software, system integrations/transitions, troubleshooting customer environments, and reviewing/recommending systems designs and implementations on the iSeries platform within multi-tenant environments. The iSeries Engineer is responsible for managing escalated backup and recovery incidents and service requests through completion.
Responsibilities:
- Migration of iSeries workload between environments or platforms including Cloud
- Ensure the operational integrity of all iSeries infrastructure
- Administration of iSeries environments including security controls, TCP/IP, BRMS, Job control, performance and capacity planning, system and PTF updates, and license management
- Architecture and implementation of iSeries management and monitoring platforms
- VIO server management and implementation
- LPAR virtualization implementation
- Design and implementation of disaster recovery and high availability solutions for iSeries
- Operation of tape management solutions, including physical and virtual tape libraries
- Job flow and application programing on iSeries
- Client access implementation and support
- Develop operational processes and documentation for day-to-day iSeries tasks
- Develop processes and documentation regarding setup and failover for iSeries customers
- Customer resolution and escalation assistance calls
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of iSeries L3/Engineering support experience in a multi-LPAR and multi-tenant environment (Managed Services preferred)
- iSeries / POWER platform certification preferred
- Understanding and application of backup, recovery, and high availability platforms for iSeries: BRMS, iTera, Qedd, and MiMiX
- Cloud experience desired, Azure and Skytap preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of Linux, virtualization, automation, data analytics, enterprise storage, and networks.
- Knowledge and/or light experience with backup technologies such as Spectrum Protect, Rubrik Commvault, Veeam preferred
- Knowledge and/or light experience with scripting technologies such as PowerShell, JSON, .Net or Python preferred
- Knowledge and experience of defining, creating, and managing procedures
- Time management and organizational skills
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills; be adept at communicating with all levels of technical and non-technical personnel
