Sr. Linux Administrator

Our client is seeking a full-time permanent Sr. Linux Admin.

Job Summary

Responsible for components of the operating system software including communications access software, transaction-processing systems, data base integration and operating system utilities. The individual provides technical assistance to development teams, designs, creates (programs) and implements system software to address business requirements. The primary focus of the above responsibilities is platform operating system, relative utilities, data communications, applications running on the servers, and the network configuration of the server.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education: Bachelor's Degree or professional level of knowledge in a specialized field, or equivalent, related experience.
Experience: 6 - 8 years - or Associates Degree equivalent plus 8 or more years.
Knowledge: Experience with VMware Esxi 6 and above
Expertise with RedHat Linux 7 ES and OS clustering, Managing VMware environment using vSphere, expertise with patch management tools Satellite, Yum and Spacewalk and experience with container technologies and container orchestration (Kubernetes/Swarm) is strongly desired. Experience with Disaster Recovery planning and implementation for critical IT systems, including VMware, is a plus as well as expertise with Active Director. Working knowledge with networking concept and terms such as TCP/IP, DNS, etc.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Collaborate with DevOps team to roll out and automate configuration & release of builds to Production. Develop tools and scripts to assist with routine maintenance tasks, using tools like Ansible or Puppet. Experience scripting with bash, Perl, Python. Working knowledge of core Internet protocols and services (e.g. IP, TCP, UDP, NTP, DNS, HTTP, SMTP, SSH, syslog) required. Expertise in tuning and maintaining Linux servers. Splunk knowledge is preferred as well as extensive/Expert knowledge of Linux system administration (specifically RHEL/CentOS, Ubuntu), remote system management using SSH and VPN, Shell/FTP/User group account and permissions management. Experience with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) beneficial. Experience working within Agile development methodology beneficial
Supervision Received: Works independently under general supervision. Work is reviewed for overall adequacy in meeting objectives.
Leadership: Provides guidance and training to less experienced staff as needed. Takes a lead role in group, team or project.
Problem Solving /Operations/Direct Work Involvement: Develops solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of innovation. Ensures that solutions are effective in meeting organizational objectives. Questions problem definition to address underlying issues.
Client Contacts: Contacts other departments and or external organizations or parties frequently. Contacts are primarily at or below upper management levels. Represents organization on specific projects. Communication may involve persuasion, and negotiation.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Minimum four years experience in Systems Programming or related experience. Experience with the IBM Power platform, Websphere Application Server, Internet technologies, personal computers, including LANs is preferred. Proficiency in programming/scripting using high-level languages is required. Must possess strong interpersonal and written communications skills and the ability to work in teams. Thorough working knowledge of a system development methodology.
